Here are a few of the comments that people
have said about God's Food Pantry.

Melissa always wears a hooded sweat shirt. She comes regularly for food for herself and her kids. One of the volunteers, Jim, saw her struggling to carry the bags of food and offered to give her a ride home that day..
Mary showed up this winter. She was obviously struggling with life and mentally and in fact had nowhere to stay. Linda got her into the Samaritan Inn and she smiles a lot these days. She now works at the Samaritan Inn in the kitchen.
Bill used to be a client. Today he is a volunteer at God's Food Pantry. It's his way of paying back.
Mark was 18 and had been kicked out by his parents. He had a lot of anger but after a while began to talk. Linda got him into the Samaritan Inn and they began to work with him. They got him a job hanging Christmas lights.
David was 12 when he first showed up. He was dressed in Gothic. His parents kicked him out and he was living in the back of parks sleeping in the trees. The police don't check there.
They mostly look for campfires in the back of the parks. He also slept in dumpsters, alley ways, under stairwells, and under bridges. He took the food that didn't need cooking. He still comes.
Joe shows up in a wheelchair. He was working construction, fell off a 2 story building, and broke his legs.
Alda comes every Saturday with her young daughter. She just needs a little extra help with food.
Sera and her family were run out of Sudan because they are Christians. Her husband has worked for several years at the same manual labor job, but with 7 kids (youngest is 1 and all "A" students) they can't always buy food. In fact some days there was no food at all. They lived in the bush in Sudan and don't think this is strange. One Thursday on the way to get food Sera said "you know those 7 McDonald chicken sandwiches you gave us on Tuesday? That's the only food we had all week." |
